The ABC's of CBCT: Academic Answers, Best Practices and Compelling Cases

Medical radiology has a long and deep history of academic inquiry into the radiographic interpretive process. Many findings from this body of work on radiographic interpretation are counter-intuitive, and not widely appreciated in endodontics. Our work at Saint Louis University has replicated many of these findings from medical radiology that lead to interpretive errors across the range of endodontic and CBCT experience. This presentation will introduce guidelines and Best Practices for how to accurately and efficiently go about CBCT study interpretation and reporting based on what has been learned about the perceptual and cognitive processes from medical radiology, and our work at Saint Louis University. We will develop these protocols using real clinical cases from the presenters practice for experiential learning.

At the conclusion of this presentation you will have a better understanding of:

  • How the endodontist, as the ordering, interpreting and intervening clinician both colors and stains the interpretive process.

  • The distinction between diagnostic imaging and screening imaging

  • An ordered, structured, efficient and methodical protocol for study review
