Using CBCT for Airway Analysis

CBCT is a complementary diagnostic tool that allows us to visualize the dentition, jaw, and paranasal sinuses. Many of the airway issues can be related to the bony and soft tissue structures surrounding the nasopharyngeal airway. Radiographic examination using CBCT can offer insight on the paranasal sinuses, temporomandibular joints, position of the jaws and airway volume. In this session, we will review the anatomical landmarks that can contribute to our assessment. We will also discuss the importance of systematic interpretation and most common incidental findings.

Objectives:

  • Review the anatomical structures that can impact the nasopharyngeal airway.

  • Analyze nasopharyngeal airway volume on the imaging software.

  • Recognize most common incidental findings in soft tissue.
